i everyone,

Green Hills! Please, return any baskets that you may be hoarding.
It's been a doozy of a week. Good news, Lizzie and Jesse celebrated their 2nd wedding anniversary last Tuesday! Although, they weren't able to celebrate it in the manner they had plannned (because of the bad news) they made the most of it and ended up celebrating at Colton's Steakhouse in Dickson with the whole (almost dead) restaurant and all the staff shouting out "Happy Anniversary!" plus a free sunday and a free shot with peach schnapps in it. Definitely not where we expected to be and we ended having a blast! But here's what happened.
We sadly have had an outbreak of barber pole worm. We lost 2 ram lambs on Monday. We treated the rest of the ram lambs on Wednesday. And they are doing much better. But it was very scary! On Tuesday Jesse and I were going to go get sushi after the CSA drop. But Jesse had a lot of planning to do so that we could be prepared to get the sheep to the barn. So we planned to meet at this lovely pizza joint in Kingston Springs instead. A little closer to us. But alas. It was closed. That's how we ended up at Colton's.
We're hoping we don't have to treat all of the ewes. There are 46 of them and just 10 ram lambs. So that would be quite the different story. But so far we think they are ok. We've heard from others that many have had disease outbreaks with their livestock this year. The unusually warm weather and rainy August weather have definitely contributed.
On a more positive note we finished the sweet potato harvest last Monday and we got rain on Friday!!! YAY!!!! We were able to get a last round of greens, root vegetables and cover crop in before it rained! So yay!!!!!
We also say goodbye to Ty and Mel Monday morning. They've helped us get so much done! And we're so grateful for their help!!!!!! We hope they come see us next year during strawberry season! Best of luck on your travels, Ty and Mel!
